REVISIONS

We have 17 participants. That means 1 square to knit/crochet for someone else. You will get 15 back. That’s because Dorothy is not knitting, but we are each making one for her.

There should be 2 completed each week to stay on track, 1 square for someone else, 1 square for you. For a square you would need 16 or 25 squares total
Next check in will be March 19.

Some changes since we first started this project. What has not changed is that we are knitting a square each for Dorothy, who is not knitting. The squares will not make as big of a project as we first thought, however, the project is smaller and more workable, I think.

Try to stay connected enough to give updates on your progress.

If I can summarize:

  1. each member will get a parcel of yarn that contains one skein/ball dominant yarn (color #1 of their 5).

  2. each participant will also receive color samples of all the colors in the pallet of the yarns for the squares they will make for others, each will be marked so you know who it should go to.

  3. Everyone will be free to do whatever they want in design in knit or crochet.

  4. Each participant will make 1 square for 17 full size project participants. The remaining yarn to do as they wish

  5. Each square should be 6”, unblocked.

  6. Each participant will be responsible for mailing their squares to the other participants involved. If anyone has a good idea about mailing, be sure to let us know. The approximate weight of 1 squares would be approximately 5g, which is less than half an oz. According to USPS, that would be about .94 US to Germany/Finland, .72 US to Canada and .42 within the US. Apologies for the Royal Mail people, I don’t understand your postal cost estimator. Estimate: 12@ .42 = $5.04 2@ .94 =1.88 1@ .72 = .72 = $7.64 in total postal costs each participant (approximate)

  7. Deadline for completion of everyone’s squares is April 20.

THE COLOR GROUPS

Some Info from the group

SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 1, 2008

I have been a little vague, so it’s not anything about you. I’m sure everyone here is wondering what I am up to and I think I have it down now. Like the garnet hill throws, in several colors of the groups choosing though. I hope to incorporate each members color selections, some if not all, and they will send finished squares to other members too. We have an even divide of people who like more intense colors and others that like them a bit more muted. So I thought we could have those get what they like and then they will have their dominant color to either assemble the squares together, and add their own squares to complete their throw/shawl. I have probably inadvertently exaggerated the throw part, though it will be a good size, it won’t be so thick that you would wrap it around your body. It would be more like a large shawl. You would have the choice to make it rectangular, or squared or triangular, whatever pattern you want to make of the squares.

So, if I can summarize:

  1. each member will get a parcel of yarn that contains one skein/ball dominant yarn (color #1 of their 5).

  2. each participant will also receive color samples of all the colors in the pallet of the yarns for the squares they will make for others, each will be marked so you know who it should go to.

  3. A chart of everyone’s colors will be available.

  4. Everyone will be free to do whatever they want in design in knit or crochet.

  5. Each participant will make 2 squares for 13 full size project participants (28 squares), and 1 each for Aradiva (smaller size project participants) and Dorothy if she chooses to join.

  6. Each square should be 6”, unblocked.

  7. Each participant will receive 27 squares (26 plus 1 from aradiva). The remaining squares can be made by the participant to complete their project.

  8. Each participant will be responsible for mailing their squares to the other participants involved. If anyone has a good idea about mailing, be sure to let us know. The approximate weight of 2 squares would be approximately 10g, which is less than half an oz.

  9. Deadline for completion of everyone’s squares is Valentine’s Day weekend.

I sent off a a message to let each of you know your yarn parcel is shipped by USPS post. To Finland, Germany and Canada, your packages shipped via USPS Priority International Delivery, which means you should receive it within a week. To everyone else, it should be 2-7 days (shipped First Class) depending where you live (from me, California). Please let me know that you received it by dropping me a pm.

The gauge is up to you, but I think a US4, 3.5mm is about right, especially if you have not knitted fine laceweight before. Smaller than that is up to you. Keep your cast on’s and cast off’s stretchy and remember that the piece you are creating is 6”, unstretched. That would be approximately 38-40 sts on a US4 needle, depending on how you knit.

Each person received at least one color of their first choice and another color to ship to others, and instructions on a slip of paper. Of course you are welcome to ask away anything that is not understandable. I did my best to get the right canvas and distribution of the colors and to include enough extra of your own color yarn to play with. Hope you will have fun.

EDIT: On the included instructions, I wrote “2 each” What that means is 2 squares each person. Those who have more than one color included in their yarn parcel, that’s 2 squares each person (not each color).
